Sefira Streaks Privacy Policy

Overview

Sefira Streaks is an app for counting the Omer. The app works in two modes: local-only mode and an optional social mode. You can use the core app without unlocking social features.

What stays on your device

  • Your Omer progress and streak data in local-only mode.
  • Your prayer display preferences and reminder preferences.
  • Your formatted phone number as typed in the app for social setup convenience.
  • Your location data used to calculate local sunset timing, unless you choose not to share location.

What is sent to our backend only if you unlock social

  • An anonymous Firebase account identifier.
  • Your username and display name for the Friends Board.
  • Your invite code.
  • Your normalized phone digits and match keys used for friend matching.
  • Your social graph data such as friendships, requests, and nudges.
  • Your push token if you enable notifications and social features.
  • Your social completion sync used to show progress to accepted friends.

Contacts

Contacts are optional for the app overall, but required to unlock social mode. When you enable contacts, the app reads contact phone numbers so it can look for people you already know who are also using Sefira Streaks. If you do not grant contacts access, the app stays fully usable in local-only mode.

If you later revoke contacts access in your device settings, your existing friends remain, but contact-based discovery pauses until contacts access is restored.

Service providers

We use Firebase and Google Cloud to store optional social data and Expo's notification delivery service to send push notifications when social features or reminders are enabled.

How social data is used

  • To help you find friends you already know.
  • To let you send and accept friend requests.
  • To show accepted friends whether you counted tonight.
  • To let friends send nudges.
  • To let you block another user if you no longer want social interaction with them.
  • To let you report another user for abuse, impersonation, or inappropriate identity details.

What the social feature does not include

  • No public feed.
  • No chat or direct messages.
  • No photo or media uploads.
  • No advertising profile built from your activity.

Account deletion

If you unlock social mode, you can delete your social account from inside the app. That removes your social profile, requests, friendships, nudges, push token, and related social backend data. The app also offers a separate destructive option to remove local app data from the device.

You can also request deletion outside the app through /delete-account.

Reports, retention, and support data

If you choose to report another user, we store the report reason, the reported account, any optional details you submit, and the time of the report so we can review the issue and respond to abuse or impersonation concerns.

We may retain limited safety or legal records, such as abuse reports or fraud-prevention notes, when needed to protect users, enforce our rules, or comply with legal obligations.
